IRVING, Texas – Men’s basketball senior guard Jon Elmore was named Conference USA Player of the Week for the first time this season Monday (Mar. 4), as announced by the league office, after a week that saw Elmore become the all-time leading scorer in C-USA history on Mar. 3 in a win at North Texas
Elmore averaged 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game during which could be described as his best shooting week of the season, 55.2 percent from the field and 55.6 percent from beyond the arc, to help lead the Herd to a pair of road victories.
At Louisiana Tech, Elmore scored 34 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out seven helpers to hand the Bulldogs their first home loss of the season and end their 15-game home win streak. The senior went 10 of 17 from the field, including five of 10 on three-pointers, while making all nine of his free-throws in the contest. The game marked the third time this season he’s had 30 or more points.
At North Texas, Elmore scored 20 points and collected another six boards. He went 50 percent from the field and knocked down five of eight shots from beyond the arc, 62.5 percent. In the win over the Mean Green, he helped the Herd rally from a 14-point deficit and a 12-point deficit at halftime, the largest halftime deficit overcome by Marshall this season. Elmore had made 25 straight free throws before seeing his streak end late in the contest.
Men’s basketball returns to the court on Wednesday night against the FIU Panthers.
