WELLSTON — Jordan Davis converted a 3-point play in the closing seconds to lift the Wellston Lady Golden Rockets to a 49-48 win over the Fairland Lady Dragons Monday.

Wellston led 13-10 after the first quarter and 23-19 at the half before Fairland rallied to tie the game at the end of the third quarter, 34-34.

Fairland (2-7) took a 40-36 lead at the start of the fourth quarter only to have Wellston tie the game again at 44.

Samantha Lamb hit a layup with 2:58 left to give Fairland a 46-44 lead. Taylor Mullins and Davis each hit foul shots to tie the game against only to have Jaimie Phillips score to put Fairland ahead 48-46.

Davis made her own layup with 1:26 left and was fouled on the play. She converted the free throw to put Wellston up 49-48.

Davis missed two foul shots with 11.3 seconds to go but Fairland’s final shot missed the mark with two seconds left as Wellston held on for the win.

The difference in the game came at the foul line as Wellston connected on 21 of 43 attempts while Fairland was just 3 of 13.

Lamb scored 14 points and Kayla Swiger 13 to lead Fairland.

Davis had 14 and Mullins 13 as Wellston (6-1) won its sixth straight.
