Officials say they also have arrested man’s accomplice
LEWIS COUNTY, Ky. — Officials in Lewis County, Ky., have arrested a man in connection with a series of drive-through bank robberies or attempts, including one at an Ironton bank.
Detectives from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department arrested 26-year-old Dustin Egbert, of Garrison, Ky., on warrants around 10:40 a.m. Thursday.
Detective Dwayne Stone said Egbert confessed to the three Portsmouth robberies and to an attempt in Ironton.
“We had an informant from an anonymous tip,” Stone said. “We had been on this all week, me and the newly-elected Sheriff Johnny Bivens. They called us and asked us about the Beretta and we have just been looking for it.”
In each of the robberies, the suspects were seen in a white Beretta.
Stone said the sheriff’s office has also arrested a man he believes to have been Egbert’s accomplice in the robberies. The man has not been charged with robbery yet. The man, who was arrested on a probation violation, matches a description of the alleged accomplice and has a long criminal history, Stone said.
Anonymous tips also indicated the man is the accomplice, Stone said.
Egbert is being held at the Lewis County Jail. He faces an extradition hearing Tuesday.
