Coats sent from Gov. John Kasich’s Office of Faith Based Initiatives

Dan Palmer, director of the Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste Management District, recently received donations for his Scioto County project, Operation GRACE, which helps children from families affected by drugs receive essential items they might otherwise have access to.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s Office of Faith Based Initiatives sent a donation of more than 60 winter coats to Palmer for Operation GRACE.

“I want to make special recognition of Brian Conrad, Kathleen Young and Julia Wharten from the office for supplying these brand new, nice winter coats for these kids,” Palmer said. “Their program is called Operation Warm Coat, and it will help a lot of kids who need it in Scioto County.”

In addition, Luminant Energy, formerly Dynegy, in Hanging Rock, Plant Manager Ray Sawyer presented a check for $1,000 to Palmer to go toward Operation GRACE. Several of his employees were also present for the donation.

“We’re also very thankful for this donation from Luminant. It will allow us to supply the needs of various kids in the school districts in Scioto County.”

Palmer started Operation GRACE nearly three years ago to help children from drug-affected families receive essential items they might not otherwise be able to get. It stands for Giving Relief to Area Children for Enrichment.
