A group of seniors from Chesapeake High School won Project Lead the Way’s Engineering competition last week.

The annual event brings together schools that participate in the STEM education program through Collins Career Technical Center.

South Point, Ironton and Rock Hill also took part in the design challenges activities at the event, which took place at Rock Hill High School.

The centerpiece of the competition was a VEX robotics completion.

Prior to the event, schools were given the challenge of constructing a device that could carry an egg over a specified distance. During the competition, they ran a demonstration of what they had built.

Matt Monteville, who serves a satellite director for CCTC, said the idea was to simulate the delivery of aid supplies to disaster-struck areas.

In addition to preparing students for the jobs of tomorrow, PLTW teaches them critical skills, problem solving and teamwork through hands-on education.
