SOUTH POINT — If fans didn’t know it was senior night, all they had to do was watch the game.
The seniors shined as the South Point Lady Pointers beat the Chesapeake Lady Pointers 5-1 on Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference soccer game.
The Lady Pointers honored seniors Grace Simpson, Kylee Riggs and Kate Mundy along with foreign exchange student Neele Bennje prior to the game.
“As a first-year coach, I can’t say enough about my three seniors as well as our foreign exchange student,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Zach Jenkins.
“They have helped me so much with their leadership and hard work. They lead by example and do things even when we don’t ask them to. They have been a real blessing to myself and our program. They will be missed when our season is said and done. All of them played a part in tonight’s win as well.”
South Point took a 3-0 lead to start the game.
Kylee Ellison scored off an assist from Bennje five minutes into the game.
Bridget Aylsworth then had an unassisted goal with 11 minutes on the clock and Emilee White scored three minutes later off an assist by Abby Broughton.
Chesapeake got its goal on a free kick by Sheridyn Collins at the 24:00 mark.
Sarah Roach had a goal at the 47-minute mark of the second half with Ellison getting the assist.
Whitt then scored her second goal unassisted with 53:00 on the clock.
“We held a good bit of possession throughout the night and limited Chesapeake’s opportunities,” said Jenkins.
The Lady Panthers’ goalkeeper Maddie McKee had nine saves.
“Maddie McKee played well in goal for Peake. She was aggressive coming off her line and that cut down on at least 2-3 more goals we more than likely wouldn’t have,” said Jenkins.
South Point plays at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at Gallipolis.
