PORTSMOUTH — The South Point Pointers threw out the welcome mat but they didn’t wipe their feet.
The Pointers welcomed back the Portsmouth soccer program in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Saturday with South Point blanking the Trojans 3-0.
“It’s great to see soccer expanding in the area. Portsmouth showed great promise for the future,” said Pointers’ coach Zane Joy.
“We were able to control a lot of the possession and limit their shots on goal.”
South Point took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Jacob McClure scored on a penalty kick at the 17-minute mark.
The Pointers didn’t score again until Josh Helton’s goal with an assist by Carmie McGuffin when 60:00 was on the clock.
South Point’s next score was at the 74:00 mark on a goal by Luke Tyree and an assist by Drew Smith.
On Tuesday, South Point hosts Fairland with the girls’ game at 5:30 and the boys’ at 7:30.
