PORTSMOUTH — Too much Talyn Parker.
Portsmouth Trojans junior running back Talyn Parker was a one-man wrecking crew as he ran 22 times for 291 yards and four touchdowns as the Portsmouth Trojans beat the Rock Hill Redmen 28-14 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
After an exchange of punts to start the game, Parker went 55 yards for a touchdown on the first play and Joe Bowling’s conversion kick made it 7-0 at the 8:59 mark of the first quarter.
The two teams continued to trade punts until the second quarter when on a third-and-11 play Parker ran 55 yards again for a touchdown and it was 14-0 with 9:53 left in the half.
Rock Hill answered with a 74-yard, 8-play drive capped by a 30-yard touchdown pass from Brayden Friend to Quinn Depriest and it was 14-7 with 5:30 on the clock.
But it only took Portsmouth two plays to answer as Parker got loose and ran 60 yards for a touchdown and it was 21-7 with 5:05 to go in the half.
Neither team scored in the third quarter although Rock Hill drove to the Portsmouth 28 only to fumble the ball away on first down.
The Trojans (3-1, 1-0) marched to the Rock Hill 25 but were held on a fourth-and-2 play.
Rock Hill (1-3, 0-1) then ran 11 plays to the Portsmouth 2-yard line. One fourth-and-goal, the Redmen were stopped inches shy of the goal line.
Portsmouth was forced to punt and Rock Hill got the ball at the Trojans’ 22.
Four plays later, Friend scored on a quarterback sneak from a yard out and it was 21-14 with 6:25 to play.
But Parker dashed the Rock Hill comeback hopes just two plays after the kickoff with a 61-yard touchdown run as he went left, then reversed his field and outran the defense to score with 5:32 to play.
Rock Hill finished with 224 total yards including 177 on the ground and 48 passing.
Logan Hankins ran 19 times for 99 yards and Zak Adkins added 60 yards on 14 tries. Friend was 2-of-4 passing.
Portsmouth had 345 yards rushing with Tyler McCoy adding 49 yards on nine carries. Danny Lattimore was 3-of-7 passing for 19 yards as the Trojans finished with 364 total yards.
This Friday, Rock Hill hosts Fairland while Portsmouth entertains Gallipolis in league games.
