Deputies said he ran over woman with van

A South Point man was arrested after allegedly running over a woman on Tuesday night.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless, William Spaulding, 58, had offered to give a ride to Linda Owens, 28, back to her home in Huntington, West Virginia. They were traveling on U.S. 52 around 11:30 p.m. when they got into a fight.

Owens agreed to get out at the next intersection and the vehicle stopped at the intersection of U.S. 52 and Charley Creek Road.

“She apparently did not get out of the van fast enough to suit him and he pushed her out,” Lawless said.

Spaulding then allegedly ran over her legs, put the van in reverse and ran over her again and then ran over her stomach before leaving. Deputies later arrested Spaulding at his  South Point home and charged him with felonious assault.

Owens was taken to the hospital for treatment and was released Wednesday morning.
