Proceeds to benefit museum’s children’s center

There will be a tour of homes in Ashland, Kentucky with proceeds going to a children’s museum.

The Highlands Museum and Discovery Center will have a home and garden tour on Sunday.

Karen Hogsten is a volunteer at the Highlands Museum and Discovery Center and also sets up at the Ironton Farmers Market with her business, Wild Paint Cut Flowers.

“This will be the third year we are having it and it goes to support the Children’s Center in the museum,” she said.

She added that around 150-200 people attend. “People like it because they get to talk to the homeowners and see what unique things they are doing,” she said.

Hogsten said there are going to be seven houses on the tour including the locally famous “Spider House.” People will also tour the Boyd County Extension office in Catlettsburg,  Kentucky, which will open their greenhouse and give out free plants.

Gibbs Hardware is also part of the tour and will be having door prizes.

She said one stop on the tour boasts several types of hastas in the backyard and the owners of the Spider House just put in a new pond.

“It’s something to see,” she said.

Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at the Highlands Museum. The tour is from 1-6 p.m.

The Highlands Museum and Discovery Center is located at 1620 Winchester Ave., Ashland, Kentucky. The museum is open Wednesday-Saturday and opens at 10 a.m.
