Orrell Ruth
Nov. 26, 1932 — June 7, 2018
Orrell Junior “June” Ruth, 85, of Pedro, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Hospice of Huntington.
The Pedro native was born Nov. 26, 1932, a son of the late Lloyd Orrell and Maude Depriest Ruth. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Camilla K. Boggs Ruth, who passed away Jan. 8, 2012.
Mr. Ruth was a 1950 graduate of Pedro High School and a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Lawrence Lodge #198 and the Valley of Cincinnati. He attended the Symmes Valley Freewill Baptist Church and was a stationary engineer for Honewell/McCloud Steel for more than 46 years, retiring in 1996.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Merle Gordon Ruth; and a sister, Yvonne Ruth.
He is survived by a daughter, Tami (Brian) Kidd, of Pedro; a son, Jeff Ruth, of Pedro; five grandchildren, Brian (Chrissy) Kidd, Jason (Tiffani) Kidd, both of Pedro, Joshua (Shelby) Ruth, of Lima, Samuel (Kristen) Ruth and Nicholas (Gabrielle) Ruth, both of Milton, West Virginia; five great-grandchildren, Josie Lee Kidd, Brian Kidd III, KyLynn Rae Kidd, Kerigan and Yvonne Kidd, all of Pedro, and Remington Leroy Ruth, of Lima.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. 7th St., Ironton, with Rev. Charlie Green and Rev. Jesse Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow in Puckett Cemetery and visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Martha King
Dec. 30, 1930 — May 30, 2018
Martha Ann King, 87, of Ironton, died at Harbor Healthcare of Ironton on May 30, 2018.
She was born Dec. 30, 1930 to the late Ralph E. and Agnes D. Farmer King. She was a member of St. Lawrence Church and a retired beautician.
She was preceded by brothers, Ralph and Dan King; sisters, Ruth Howard and Sharon Brooks.
Survivors include sisters, Carol (Wayne) Harmon and Mary Tomlinson; nieces, Kim (Tony) Addis and Brenda Harmon; a nephew, James (Dee) Howard, and several other nieces and nephews.
A committal service will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery, with Father David Huffman officiating.
Donations can be made to St. Joseph Catholic School or Hospice. O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Harvey Morton
Aug. 24, 1939 — June 7, 2018
Harvey E. Morton, a native of Coal Grove, passed away June 7, 2018 at Community Hospice of Ashland, Kentucky.
He was born Aug. 24, 1939 to the late Orville Morton and Anna Louise Corbin. He attended school in Louisville, Kentucky, was a U.S. Army veteran, retired truck driver, and of Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbra J. Morton; a son, James Morton; a daughter, Teresa Massie; and brothers, Ronald, Orville and Jimmy Morton.
Survivors include children, Raymond (Loretta) Morton, Bruce Morton and Alice Morton; a sister, Mertle (Teddy) Pallast; five grandchildren and their wives, four great grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Rosco. Visitation will be Sunday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home from 3-4 p.m. Funeral will begin at the funeral home on Sunday at 4 p.m. Pastor Shields will be officiating. Burial will be at Slab Fork Cemetery.
Brian Long
Feb. 24, 1969 — June 7, 2018
Brian Eugene Long, 49, of Pedro, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Community Hospice in Ashland, Kentucky.
Brian was born Feb. 24, 1969 in Springfield, son of Avanelle Mart Long Jenkins and the late George E. Long, Sr. Brian was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and pastor of Union Baptist Church in Kitts Hill.
He is survived by his wife, Christy McKnight Long, whom he married Nov. 18, 1989.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Megan (Jason) Pennington; his son, Corey Long; Kalib Fizer and Shawn Sparks, who he loved like sons; two grandsons, Mason and Maddix Pennington; a brother, George (Angie) Long Jr.; a brother-in-law, Steve (Jane) McKnight; a sister in-law, Ronda (Mark) Smoot, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with Pastor Kenny Klaiber officiating. Burial will follow at Slab Fork Cemetery, Pedro. Friends may call from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
