Larry Farmer

Nov. 3, 1950 — May 28, 2018

Larry Michael Farmer, 67, resident of Ironton, passed away Monday, May 28, 2018, from cancer. He was born Nov. 3, 1950, to Ida Marie Lyons and Lloyd Louis Farmer.
He was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Christy Farmer Miller, of Longview, Texas.
He is survived by three children, Erica, Michael and Derrick Farmer Waddell; two grandchildren, Brayden and Elijah; and his friend, Keith “Kedro” Bennett.
He was of the Apostolic Pentecostal faith. He was an Airborne Ranger in the U.S. Army and served two terms in Vietnam. He received two Purple Hearts while serving. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, the VFW, the DAV, as well as a member of the Ironton and Ashland Moose clubs.
Services for friends and family will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Chapel, Ironton, and at noon at Woodland Cemetery. The family has entrusted his care to Brown Funeral Chapel, Ironton.

 

 

Ruth Newman

Nov. 22, 1933 — May 31, 2018

Ruth Ann Newman, 84, of Pedro, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Kentucky.
She was born Nov. 22, 1933 in Ironton, a daughter of the late Samuel David Smith and Anna Louise Gruber Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Miles Newman and an infant daughter, Ruth Ann Newman. Ruth was a member of Lick Creek Missionary Baptist Church and was a great mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Earl Smith of Burlington; Debbie (Johnny) Ross, of North Carolina; Effie (Don) Justice, of South Point; Brenda (Jack) McClaskey, of South Point; Miles Newman, of Ceredo, West Virginia; Bessie Bowman, of Ironton; and Wayne Newman, of Ironton; 14 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Kay; and a brother, Dud Smith, of Coal Grove.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with Pastor Phillip Vernon Bowman, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
