Solid waste event a success

2.75 tons of electronic waste collected in Scioto, Lawrence
An e-waste and shred event, hosted by the Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste Management District a few weekends ago, was a success, according to district director Dan Palmer.
The event took place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, May 11 in Scioto County at Valley Wholesale Foods in Portsmouth and from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 12 in Lawrence County at the Ironton Hills Plaza.
Residents of either county were able to participate at either location by bringing important papers, envelopes or confidential documents to be shredded, or electronic items, such as computers, copiers, cell phones, laptops, keyboards, fax machines or monitors to be properly disposed of.
A total of 264 vehicles came through between the two counties, totals of 15,000 lbs. of shred waste and 5,500 lbs. of e-waste were collected.
Of the totals, 140 vehicles were from Scioto County with 9,000 lbs. of shred waste and 4,500 lbs. of e-waste collected.
In Lawrence County, there were 124 vehicles with 6,000 of shred waste and 1,000 lbs. of e-waste collected.
