PORTSMOUTH — For the Portsmouth Trojans, size does matter.
The 6-foot-5 inside tandem of Dion McKinley and Tre Underwood was too much for the shorter South Point Pointers to overcome as the Trojans posted a 67-46 win Friday.
McKinley scored a game-high 28 points and also pulled down 20 rebounds to lead the Trojans. Wayne Evans scored 20 points while Underwood added eight.
Blake Barnes had 12 points and Austin Jeffreys 10 for the Pointers (1-1).
The Trojans (1-1) led just 14-13 at the end of the first quarter, but McKinley scored 15 points in the decisive second quarter as Portsmouth took a 37-26 halftime lead.
Both teams scored 11 points in the third quarter and the Trojans pulled away in the fourth quarter by outscoring South Point 19-9.
