The Lawrence County sheriff’s office has made an arrest in the threats that were made toward Symmes Valley High School.
Breianna N. May, 18, of 15485 State Route 141, Willow Wood, was arrested Tuesday by sheriff’s detectives after an extensive investigation.
On Wednesday, Feb. 21, at threat was made on a popular website that claimed a shooting was going to occur at the school. Detectives have been working on this threat since they were made aware of it and they obtained search warrants for the social media website and cellphones.
Through these subpoenas, the IP address was obtained which led law enforcement officials to where the message had been generated. Detectives interviewed the suspect May and she admitted that she had posted the message.
May had been a person of interest for a few days while detectives continued to develop evidence.
“I am proud of the hard work from my detectives and staff,” said Sheriff Jeff Lawless. “We have worked many hours on these threats in an effort to keep our children safe.”
May is charged with one count of inducing panic — an F-4 count — and one count of terroristic threats — an F-2 count.
May is currently housed in the Lawrence County jail. She will be arraigned at 9 a.m. on Friday in the Lawrence County Municipal Court.
