String quartet concert slated for Sunday

The Kinder Graduate String Quartet, a string ensemble made up of Ohio University School of Music graduate students, will perform for the Ironton Council for the Arts Series at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church in Ironton.
The quartet features Sylvia Lim and Shauna Hormiere on violin, Emily Wilcox on viola, and Ariel David Londono on cello. The concert will also feature selections performed by OU School of Music faculty members, Dr. Dawn D. Wohn, assistant professor of violin and chair of the string division, and Dr. Gabriel Prynn, visiting assistant professor of cello.
As graduate assistants, the members of the Kinder Graduate String Quartet teach classes, serve as mentors, uphold leadership roles within the university orchestra and rehearse. They perform recitals every semester as well.
Lim has had the opportunity to perform for a variety of audiences in multiple countries, including Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Thailand, Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Italy. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in violin performance from the University of Maryland, and continued her graduate studies with a performance certificate from Ohio University. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in violin performance.
Hormiere has 16 years of experience in music studies, performances and experiences. She has toured Italy and Slovenia with the International Music Festival of the Adriatic as well as having performed in various festivals. She recently graduated from Butler University with a bachelor’s degree in violin performance, and continues to study violin at OU.
Wilcox is currently pursuing a master’s degree in music therapy, and aside from being a part of the quartet, she also performs as part of the Ohio Valley Symphony, is a public school teacher and provides private lessons.
Londono is a Columbian cellist who was admitted to the National University of Columbia, where he studied with Julio Gutierrez and Henryk Zarycki. He is currently continuing to study cello at OU.
Admission to the concert is $10, and tickets may be purchased at the door. Ohio University students will be admitted for free with a valid student ID.
The First Presbyterian Church of Ironton is located at 201 N. Fifth St.
