ASHLAND — Boyd County School officials said they have taken steps to address a threat that was allegedly made at the one the districts schools on Thursday.

In a letter sent to parents on Thursday, interim superintendent William L. Boblett Jr. said a student at Boyd County Middle School had made a verbal threat to other students in the early hours of the day about bringing a weapon to school.

Boblett said students reported the threat to administrators, who notified the school resource officer and an investigation was launched.

Boblett said school disciplinary action, as well as possible law enforcement action, will be taken as deemed appropriate.

He stressed that, at no time, were students or faculty in any danger.

“The procedures that we have in place allowed us to handle this situation with little disruption to the other students in the building, most of whom were unaware that a threat had even been made,” Boblett wrote. “We appreciate your willingness to continually trust us with your children. We make every effort to provide them with a safe and caring environment while at school.”

Boblett had sent a letter on Wednesday about a separate incident, in which he said he had been made informed of an alleged threat that took place in a neighboring district on Monday. He said, based on information provided by the county sheriff’s office and Kentucky State Police, it was determined that the threat was not directed toward any school in Boyd County.
