According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Ironton Post, Arnett E. Madden, 42 was going north on State Route 650, about one mile north of U.S. 52, around 9:23 p.m. Saturday when he drove off the right side of the road.

According to witness statements, he was going too fast and failed to negotiate a curve.

“He hit the brakes and lost control,” said OSHP Sgt. Shane Salyers. He added that the road conditions were dry but alcohol is suspected to a contributing factor in the accident.

The ATV struck a guardrail and overturned. Madden was ejected and came to rest with the ATV on top of him.

The Lawrence County Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.

The case is still under investigation by the OSHP.
