Hygiene products, money helped for holidays

The Ironton City Welfare Mission recently received donations from a few civic groups to better its cause.

The Ironton Co-Operative Club donated personal hygiene products to the shelter for distribution to transient and homeless people who visit.

The Ironton Lions Club also gifted $1,000 to the city mission in order to help with its Christmas food baskets and toys for children.

Each year, the mission has new families and children seeking assistance during the holiday season, and the Ironton Lions Club’s gift helped meet the need of more than 500 families with food baskets and nearly 800 children with toys.

“We appreciate both of these donations very much,” the Rev. Jeff Cremeans, pastor of the Ironton City Welfare Mission Church, said. “The Ironton Lions Club and the Ironton Co-Operative Club have both stood by us for many, many years, and all of the money that’s raised stays right here in the community.”

The Ironton City Welfare Mission was founded in 1944 for the purpose of caring for the unfortunate of Ironton and Lawrence County. Since that time, thousands of people have found help in time of need.
