Donations made to Chesapeake-Sybene Senior Center

PROCTORVILLE — More than 100 seniors gathered at the Proctorville First Baptist Church this past Friday for the annual Chesapeake-Sybene Senior Center Christmas luncheon.

The event is the center’s largest gathering of the year, and brings out numerous public officials as well.

“This is a fantastic event,” Darlene Green, director of the senior center, said. “People come out for the fellowship, which is what it’s supposed to be for.”

Lawrence County Commissioners DeAnna Holliday and Freddie Hayes Jr., Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge Andy Ballard, Lawrence County Municipal Judge Donald Capper, county Treasurer Stephen Burcham, county Clerk of Courts Mike Patterson, newly retired EMS director Buddy Fry, the three new EMS administrators, Lori Morris, Jeff Gaskin and Mac Yates and Santa Claus were just some in attendance.

Holliday and Hayes presented Green with a $10,000 donation to the senior center from the county commission, stating that the seniors are very important to the county. Patterson then said his office would donate an additional $5,000, totaling $15,000 for the center.

Green thanked them for their generosity, and said the donations would be a tremendous help.

“I didn’t know about the donations before this,” Green said. “But it will pay for the utilities, and we can’t thank them enough.”
