Mary Phillips
Feb. 12, 1926 — Nov. 27, 2017
Mary Elizabeth Phillips, 91, of Coal Grove, passed away, Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, in Crystal Care Nursing Home, Franklin Furnace.
Mrs. Phillips was born Feb. 12, 1926, in War, West Virginia, a daughter to the late Shaler and Gracie (Hicks) Hill. She was also preceded in death in October 2000 by her husband, Robert H. Phillips, whom she married Aug. 23, 1946.
Mrs. Phillips attended Big Creek schools in West Virginia. She was a former secretary for E.H. Schilling and Sons Contractors Inc. in Ironton. She was a life member of VFW Post 8850 Auxiliary, and a member of the Moose Auxiliary, UCT and attended Ohio Baptist Church in Union Landing.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by daughter, Glenda Hackney; brother, Raymond Hill; and three sisters, Alice June Owens, Patsy Hawkins and Janice Diane Phillips.
She is survived by grandson, Todd Aaron Rickman, and his wife, Laura Rickman, of Huntington, West Virginia; great-granddaughter, Lesa Rickman, of Huntington, West Virginia; great-grandson, John Rickman, of Huntington, West Virginia; sister, Freda Mae Shockley, of Salem, Virginia; and three special friends, Charlene Graham, of Ironton, and Rita and Dave Messer, of Franklin Furnace.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, with pastor Homer Campbell officiating. There will be no public visitation. John Daniels
Dec. 1, 1954 — 2017
John Eric Daniels, 62, of Ironton, passed away after fighting a long battle with cancer. The Ironton native was born Dec. 1, 1954, a son of Edith Bruce Daniels, of Ironton, and the late Ray Daniels.
He is survived by his wife and true companion of 30 years, Debra Ferguson Daniels, whom he married Aug. 27, 2016.
John attended Ironton High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Vietnam era. He was a self-employed carpenter and of the Baptist faith. John had a great sense of humor and was a true comedian. He always graced us with a laugh and made light of hardship situations.
In addition to John’s father, he was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Jerry and Elva Bruce; paternal grandparents, May Daniels and Erie Hopkins; mother and father-in-law, Robert and Dixie Simms; sisters, Janice Daniels and Linda Daniels; and a nephew, Timothy Mills.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by two sons, Jon Daniels and Brad (Quin) Sharp; four daughters, Megan Daniels, Mindi Daniels, Jesse Darby and Jessica (Brian) Collier; a niece, Shanna Daniels; two nephews, Chris Daniels and Derek Daniels; brothers at heart, Steve Walters and Bud David; and 12 grandchildren, Nicole, Garrett, Gracie, Gunner, Casen, Adam, Wyatt, Eli, Saulen, Jake, Anna, and Jack. He had many friends, young and old, near and far, here and gone, you know who you are.
A Celebration of Life will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Paul Porter Park, Coal Grove. Linda Sydow
Feb. 7, 1943 — Nov. 28, 2017
Linda Lee Sydow, 74, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at her residence. The Columbus native was born Feb. 7, 1943, the daughter of the late Dorathy Rogers and Edmond Spicer. She is survived by her husband, Stephen J. Sydow.
Linda was a graduate of Port Jefferson High School in Long Island, New York, and a former owner of the 52 Pick Up. She was an avid photographer and a member of St. Lawrence Church, where she was a part of the Feed Your Faith Organization.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Nikki (Robert) Thomas, of Ironton, Kerri (John) Thornburg, of Ashland, Kentucky, and Stacie (Joe) Erb, of Columbus; stepdaughter, Tara (Bill) Roch, of South Hampton, Massachusetts; two sisters, Carol Anderson, of Connecticut, and Diana Coyne, of Texas; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton. The Funeral Mass will follow at 2:30 p.m. at St. Lawrence Church, Ironton, with Father David Huffman officiating.
Burial with immediate family will be held at a later date. Keith Boggs
March 23, 1952 — Nov. 26, 2017
Keith Boggs, 65, of Pedro, passed away Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, after an extended illness surrounded by family and friends and his love of Christmas lights, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia.
The Pedro native was born March 23, 1952, a son to the late Forrest “Jub” and Alcinda “Cindy” Miller Boggs.
Keith attended Open Door School in Ironton and was an active member of the Forest Ridge Community Church, where he loved to ring the church bell. Over the years, he also attended Mount Calvary Freewill Baptist Church, Fox Hollow Church, and Symmes Valley Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed all of these churches and left behind a host of friends.
Keith also leaves behind one sister, Betty (James) Newman, of Wheelersburg; two brothers, Forrest (Betty) Boggs and Roger (Becky) Boggs, both of Pedro; one brother-in-law, June Ruth, of Pedro; one sister-in-law, Linda Boggs, of Pedro; and several nieces and nephews.
Keith was preceded in death by one sister, Camilla “Kay” Ruth; one brother, Harold “Huck” Boggs; a niece, Cindy Lynn McMaster; and a nephew, Mike Boggs.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Jesse Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, and visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Jane Filkins
May 20, 1929 — Nov. 28, 2017
Jane Filkins, 88 of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, in Mount Carmel East Medical Center, Columbus. Mrs. Filkins was born May 20, 1929, in Nicut, West Virginia, a daughter to the late William Festus and Losie (Cottrell) Metz. She is also preceded in death by her husband, John W. Filkins, who passed away Nov. 19, 1978.
Mrs. Filkins was a graduate of Rupert High School in West Virginia and St. Mary’s School of Nursing. She was a former Registered Nurse for Lawrence County General Hospital and a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Circle Five. She also was a former member of the Eastern Star and was active with the Ironton High School Band Boosters.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Opal Bartley and Thelma Yarger; and two brothers, Russell Metz and Bert Metz.
She is survived by two sons, John Paul (Karin) Filkins, of El Paso, Illinois, and Mike (Debbie) Filkins, of Ironton; two daughters, Kathy (Ryan) Markins, of Ironton, and Shari (Ron) Chafin, of Westerville; sister, Etta (Junior) Collins, of Barberton; nine grandchildren, Ryan Filkins, Megan (Tyler) Sexton, Michael (Jamie) Filkins, David Markins, Dylan Markins, Jacob Filkins, Walt Chafin, Abbey Chafin and Sydney Chafin; two great-grandchildren, Sophia Fout and Stormie Gates; and a host of other family and friends who will miss her.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, and visitation for family and friends will be noon until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. James Michael Jim Lewis, 60, of Chesapeake, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Garretta Lewis.
