Betty Pemberton

Nov. 18, 1929 — Oct. 29, 2017

Betty Pemberton, 87, of Coal Grove, passed away Sunday, Oct 29, 2017, at her residence. Betty was born Nov. 18, 1929, in Rock Camp, a daughter of the late Robert Sr. and Ethel Fields Huninghake.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Pemberton; a daughter, Judy Pemberton; brothers, Robert “Buddy” Huninghake Jr. and Bill Huninghake; a sister, Kathleen Bryant; a granddaughter, Kimberly   Pemberton; and a brother-in-law, Calvin Waller.
Betty was a member of the Arabia Missionary Baptist Church and was a graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School. Most of all, she was a loving mother and grandmother, and will be deeply missed by her family.
Survivors include her daughters, Pam (Thomas) Bowling, of Ironton, and Gloria Pemberton, of Ironton; sisters, Joyce (James) Voss, of South Point, and Rosemary Waller, of Ironton; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, with Ron Henderson officiating. No visitation is planned. Steen Funeral Home, Ashland, Kentucky, is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences to www.steenfuneralhome.com.

Verla Mick

Verla Ruth Ritch Mick, 93, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at a local health care facility. The Carmi, Illinois native was born March 30, 1924, a daughter of the late Clarence and Ella Ritch.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn L. Mick, who passed away July 6, 2006. Mrs. Mick was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James. L. Mick Sr.; four brothers, Wilburn Ritch, John Ritch, Norman Ritch and Bill Ritch; and three sisters, Wanda Lee Anselman, Wilma “Sis” Ritch and Dorothy Bodine.
She is survived by two grandchildren, James. L. “JL” Mick Jr. and Veronica L. Mick, both of Proctorville; a great-granddaughter, Chloe A. Mick; a daughter-in-law, Eva Mick; a nephew, Robert “Bobby Joe” Stearns, of Decatur, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Loretta Ritch of Carmi, Illinois; and several other nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Joyce Rodgers

Feb. 7, 1943 — Oct. 29, 2017

Joyce Rodgers, 74, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Russell, Kentucky. The Ironton native was born Feb. 7, 1943, a daughter of the late Wayne and Edna Russell Moore. She is also preceded in death by her husband, John Rodgers.
Joyce was a 1961 graduate of Ironton High School. She was employed at the Desco Federal Credit Union, and, after retiring, she went to work at Central Christian Church in Ironton.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Delores Moore; and a niece, Laura Gallagher.
She is survived by two brothers, Wayne Moore and James (Shirley) Moore; a sister, Betty (Daniel) Gallagher; a niece, Molly (Phillip) Snowden; and nephews, Wesley (Teresa) Moore and John (Jennifer) Gallagher.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Central Christian Church, Ironton, with Minister Willie Purdee officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, and visitation will be noon until the time of the service Wednesday at the church. Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, is assisting the family with the arrangements. To honor her mother, Joyce donated corneas to be transplanted. Robert Scott Preston, 51, of Ashland, Kentucky, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2017, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Kentucky. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.
