Steven Dean

Dec. 27, 1958 — Oct. 23, 2017

Steven Lee Dean, 58 of South Point, passed away Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at his residence. The Ironton native was born Dec. 27, 1958, to Ralph Dean and the late Barbara Clay.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Cirilda Jane Bryant Dean, whom he married June 20, 1981.
Steve graduated from Coal Grove High School in 1977. He attended the Ashland State Vocational-Technical School in Ashland, Kentucky, where he completed a millwright apprenticeship in January 1984. After becoming a journeyman millwright, he was a member of the former Millwright Local 1519 in South Point. He later received an HVAC certification after completing 1,800 hours, in heating and air conditioning at Collins Career Center. He was employed as a machinist with CSX Huntington Locomotive Shop where he enjoyed making many good friends.
Steve utilized his mechanical skills at his home and garage, where he loved working on small engines, restoring a 1977 Kawasaki 1000, and restoring his 1972 Dodge Demon and 1970 Dodge Challenger. He thoroughly enjoyed working on anything mechanical. He also fabricated parts for his rail buggy, which he built completely. He loved attending car shows, particularly those featuring MOPARS.
He enjoyed carpentry and woodworking and put these skills to work building his family home, his “dream garage,” and even a large wooden play set for his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by an adoring daughter, Stevi Lee Dean Wood, and a beloved son-in-law, Michael Robert Wood; and two grandchildren, Alexus Holly Wood, 12, and Ayden Michael Wood, 10, both of Deering.
Steve was preceded in death by an older sister, Terri Lynne Dean, in March 1958.
He is survived by two loving sisters, Debbi Schweickart, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Lisa Potter, of Deering; a mother-in-law, Nora Edith Bryant, of Coal Grove; and a lifelong best friend, Scott Swartzwelder, of South Point.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday and noon Friday with the funeral service at 1 p.m. Friday. Burial will be at the Community Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. O’Keefe Baker Funeral Home, Ironton, is in charge of the arrangements.
