John Daniels

Dec. 1, 1954 — 2017

John Eric Daniels, 62, of Ironton, passed away after fighting a long battle with cancer. The Ironton native was born Dec. 1, 1954, a son of Edith Bruce Daniels, of Ironton, and the late Ray Daniels.
He is survived by his wife and true companion of 30 years, Debra Ferguson Daniels, whom he married Aug. 27, 2016.
John attended Ironton High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Vietnam era. He was a self-employed carpenter and of the Baptist faith. John had a great sense of humor and was a true comedian. He always graced us with a laugh and made light of hardship situations.
In addition to John’s father, he was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Jerry and Elva Bruce; paternal grandparents, May Daniels and Erie Hopkins; mother and father-in-law, Robert and Dixie Simms; sisters, Janice Daniels and Linda Daniels; and a nephew, Timothy Mills.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by two sons, Jon Daniels and Brad (Quin) Sharp; four daughters, Megan Daniels, Mindi Daniels, Jesse Darby and Jessica (Brian) Collier; a niece, Shanna Daniels; two nephews, Chris Daniels and Derek Daniels; brothers at heart, Steve Walters and Bud David; and 12 grandchildren, Nicole, Garrett, Gracie, Gunner, Casen, Adam, Wyatt, Eli, Saulen, Jake, Anna and Jack.
He also had many friends young and old, near and far, here and gone- you know who you are.
A Celebration of Life will be at a later date at the convenience of the family. The family would like to express their thanks to the Sanctuary of the Ohio Valley and Community Hospice for their care of John. Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, is assisting the family with the arrangements. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
