Drug cases, CCS violations fill docket

This week’s Lawrence County Common Pleas dockets were filled with numerous drug cases and community controlled sanctions (CCS) violations in both Judge Andy Ballard and Judge Charles Cooper’s courtrooms.
• Amanda Blake, age unknown, of 2739 S. Fifth Street, Ironton, pleaded not guilty to three counts of trafficking in drugs, fourth-degree felonies. Judge Ballard set bond at $40,000 property, $20,000 cash or surety and $50,000 OR. Pretrial was set for Oct. 17.
• Clarence Botkins, 45, of 118 Private Drive 4287, Ironton, pleaded guilty to aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a third-degree felony. In exchange for a guilty plea on this count, the court nolled another count of the same felony. Judge Ballard set sentencing for Nov. 15.
• Donald Chaffins, 52, of 139 Westview Ave., Huntington, West Virginia, pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine, a felony of the fifth-degree. Judge Ballard sentenced him to six months in jail with credit for 26 days served, one year CCS under intensive supervised probation (ISP) and ordered him to pay court costs.
• Timothy Fox, 24, of 317 Mulberry Street, Apt. 2, Ironton, admitted CCS violations. Judge Ballard ordered him to complete the STAR program, complete 200 hours community service and pay $567 in restitution.
• Edward Holmes, 39, of 211 Orchard Street, Ironton, denied CCS violations. Judge Ballard set the CCS trial for Sept. 27.
• Dennis Howard, 38, of 1222 Lumbeck Road, Chillicothe, pleaded not guilty to trafficking in drugs (methamphetamine) and complicity to trafficking in drugs, both felonies of the fourth-degree. Judge Ballard set bond at $40,000 property, $10,000 cash or surety and $50,000 OR.
• Jason Hudson, 43, of 1599 Township Road 158, Chesapeake, admitted to CCS violations. Hudson has missed several court appearances, which he stated were due to working and taking care of his children, grandfather and bed-ridden father. Judge Ballard extended his CCS one year with 17 months reserved, gave him an additional 100 hours of community service and ordered him to pay back the $3,000 in restitution from his original theft charge by the end of the year. Hudson has already paid $175 of the $3,000.
• Emory Johnson, 53, of 1171 County Road 1, Lot 15, South Point, pleaded guilty possession of a controlled substance (heroin), a fifth-degree felony. She was eligible for intervention in lieu of conviction. Judge Ballard sentenced her to one year CCS and ordered her to complete 200 hours of community service and complete outpatient recovery treatment.
• Dean Montroso, 46, of 1453 County Road 1, South Point, pleaded guilty to possession of drugs (Oxycodone), a felony of the fifth-degree. Judge Ballard set sentencing for Oct. 4.
• Randall Peters, 66, of 1342 15th Street, Huntington, West Virginia, pleaded not guilty to aggravated trafficking in drugs (Oxycodone), a first-degree felony, possession of drugs (Oxycodone), a second-degree felony, aggravated trafficking in cocaine, a felony of the third-degree, and possession of cocaine, a fourth-degree felony. Peters was out on bond, and was going to be released back on bond pending him passing a drug test.
• Danny Sellards, 35, of 84 Township Road 1337, South Point, denied CCS violations. Judge Ballard set a CCS trial for two weeks.
• Nathaniel Walsh, 33, of 71 Private Drive 65, Township Road 287, Chesapeake, pleaded not guilty to three counts of trafficking in heroin, all fifth-degree felonies. Judge Ballard set bond at $5,000 cash or surety, $10,000 OR and ordered him to be on GPS monitoring.
• Aaron Workman, 29, of 512 State Route 373, Pedro, pleaded not guilty to breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony, and grand theft, a felony of the fourth-degree. He also failed a drug test at court. Judge Ballard set bond at $5,000 cash or surety and $10,000 OR.
• Rikki Wurts, 21, of 2731 Woodhaven Drive, Ashland, Kentucky, had her intervention in lieu of conviction revoked. Judge Ballard sentenced her to four years CCS under ISP with 11 months reserved, and ordered her to complete the STAR program, 200 hours community service and pay court costs.
• David Dupree, 37, of 615 Fourth Street, Huntington, West Virginia, pleaded no contest to five counts of receiving stolen property, two of the fourth-degree and three of the fifth-degree. Judge Ballard set a future sentencing date.
• Ricky Waddle, 23, of 1115 S. Third Street, Ironton, pleaded not guilty to three counts of trafficking in drugs, felonies of the third-degree. Judge Ballard set bond at $60,000 property, $30,000 cash or surety and $60,000 OR. Pretrial was set for Sept. 27.
• Scott Bonham, 50, of 73545 U.S. 50, McArthur, pleaded not guilty to having weapons under disability, a third-degree felony, possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony, possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a felony of the fifth-degree, defacing identification marks of a firearm, a first-degree misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. Judge Cooper set bond at $25,000 cash or surety. Pretrial was set for Oct. 4.
• Emily Clark, 29, of 2301 S. Sixth Street, Ironton, failed to show up for her arraignment. She is facing tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. A warrant was issued for her arrest.
• Preston Curry, 41, of 1173 County Road 1, Lot 59, South Point, denied CCS violations. Judge Cooper set a CCS trial for Sept. 27.
• Denise Garvey, 54, of 2212 N. Fifth Street, Ironton, pleaded guilty to possession of drugs (crystal meth), a fifth-degree felony. In exchange for a guilty plea, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, was nolled. Judge Cooper set sentencing for Oct. 4.
• Roger Meadows, 39, of 3826 Stanton Ave., New Boston, admitted CCS violations. Judge Cooper extended his CCS by one year, and ordered him to complete 200 hours community service.
• Andrew Morrison, 25, of 43 Township Road 1007, Chesapeake, pleaded guilty to possession of heroin, a fifth-degree felony. In exchange for a guilty plea, another count of the same charge was nolled. He is eligible for intervention in lieu of conviction, and Judge Cooper sentenced him to four years CCS under ISP, and ordered him to complete treatment at Mended Reeds. He will remain in jail until a bed opens.
• Joseph Swanson, 45, of 1113 Adrian Ave., Gallipolis, denied CCS violations. Judge Cooper set a CCS trial for two weeks.
• Whittany Taylor, 31, of 70 Private Drive 302, Room 316, South Point, pleaded guilty to endangering children. Judge Cooper sentenced her to four years CCS under ISP, and ordered her to complete treatment at Mended Reeds, 200 hours community service and to set up a child service plan with the Lawrence County Department of Job and Family Services.
