Relief items collected from all around Lawrence County
Several relief collection efforts to aid the Houston, Texas area and other parts of the country recently affected by Hurricane Harvey have taken place throughout Lawrence County over the past two weeks.
BWC Trucking in Hanging Rock has been collecting items from numerous businesses and individuals, including the Wyngate at RiversEdge Senior Living Community, which dropped items and a monetary donation off at BWC Friday afternoon.
BWC Trucking has already sent one truckload down to Texas, and a second is set to leave Monday. Supplies collected for a third truck are in the company’s warehouse, and donations will still be accepted through next week at BWC Trucking, located on State Route 650 just off the Hanging Rock exit of U.S. 52.
The Lawrence County Department of Job and Family Services has also been taking donations, spearheaded by AFSCME Local 3319 Union President Belinda Brown.
A collection by the Teresa Chapter #257 of the Order of the Eastern Star also took place from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at the Proctorville Masonic Lodge, located at 340 Front Street.
Items needed include bottled water, diapers, baby food, baby wipes, non-perishable food items, blankets, sheets, cleaning supplies, dog and cat food, leashes, litter boxes, transportation crates, towels, toiletries, toilet paper, rubber and disposable gloves, and plastic silverware and paper or Styrofoam plates.
