Drug cases dominate common pleas docket

Drug-related cases dominated the dockets at Lawrence County Common Pleas Court in both Judge Andy Ballard and Judge Charles Cooper’s courtrooms.
• Douglas Banner, 52, of 1657 Burlington Ave., Columbus, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. Judge Ballard sentenced him to six months in prison and ordered him to pay court costs.
• Michelle Brammer, 25, of 136 Private Drive 291, Ironton, pleaded not guilty to violating a protection order or consent agreement, a felony of the fifth-degree. Ballard continued bond at $2,500 cash or surety from a lower court and set a $15,000 OR bond. Pretrial was set for Sept. 20.
• Paul Brown, 41, of 92 Township Road 1018, South Point, pleaded not guilty to complicity to trafficking in heroin, a fifth-degree felony. Ballard set bond at $20,000 cash or surety and $25,000 OR.
• Justin Daniels, 33, of 508 23rd Street, Huntington, West Virginia, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of heroin, a fifth-degree felony. He was eligible for intervention in lieu of conviction, and Ballard ordered him to complete an outpatient program with Riverside Recovery Services until a bed opens up there for inpatient, which will be around Oct. 2.
• Tamara Grubb, 30, of 813 First Street, Chesapeake, pleaded guilty to possession of heroin, a fifth-degree felony. Ballard sentenced her to four years community-controlled sanctions (CCS) under intensive supervised probation (ISP), and ordered her to complete STAR and 200 hours community service.
• Sheryl Logsdon, 47, of 197 County Road 1, Lot 56, South Point, pleaded guilty to possession of heroin and possession of drugs (Suboxone), both felonies of the fifth-degree, and possession of drug abuse instruments, a first-degree misdemeanor. Ballard sentenced her to seven months in prison and ordered her to pay court costs.
• William McKee, 47, of 2280 Winchester Ave., Room 102, Ashland, Kentucky, was found to be incompetent to stand trial by the Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare facility in Athens. However, the center also believes he will be able to regain competency within the time limit allowed by law. He was sent back to Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare until he is found ready to stand trial. McKee faces one count of violating a protection order or consent agreement, a fifth-degree felony.
• Summer Meade, 28, of 213 Comfort Suites, South Point, previously pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a controlled substance, a fifth-degree felony, and possession of drug abuse instruments, a second-degree misdemeanor last year. At the time, she received intervention in lieu of conviction. However, on Wednesday, she was found to violate terms of her agreement, and her intervention was revoked. Ballard sentenced her to four years CCS under ISP with 11 months reserved, ordered her to complete treatment at Mended Reeds and added 100 hours to her community service, making a total of 274 hours community service to complete.
• Jeffery Hall, age and address unknown, pleaded guilty to possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. He was eligible for intervention in lieu of conviction, and Ballard ordered him to complete treatment at Riverside Recovery Services, and sentenced him to one year CCS and ordered him to complete 200 hours community service.
• Antonio Murphy, 27, of 118 N. Sixth Street, Ironton, pleaded not guilty to trafficking in marijuana, a fourth-degree felony, trafficking in marijuana, a fifth-degree felony, and trafficking in cocaine, a felony of the fourth-degree. Ballard set bond at $10,000 cash or surety and $20,000 OR. Pretrial was set for Oct. 4.
• Cheyenne Belville, 18, of 1412 S. First Street, Ironton, pleaded not guilty to aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor. Judge Cooper set bond at $15,000 cash or surety. Pretrial was set for Sept. 20.
• Jason Carpenter, age and address unknown, denied CCS violations. Cooper set trial for Sept. 20.
• Bethany Crabtree, 29, of 2211 S. Fifth Street, Ironton, pleaded guilty to aggravated possession of drugs (Buprenorphine Hydrochloride), a felony of the fifth-degree. Cooper sentenced her to four years CCS under ISP with 11 months reserved, and ordered her to complete STAR.
• Samuel Patrick, 20, of 179 Township Road 1233, Proctorville, denied CCS violations. Cooper set trial for Sept. 20.
• Nichole Scott, 45, of 1515 Sheep Hollow Road, South Shore, Kentucky, previously pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated vehicular assault, third-degree felonies, and one count of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Cooper sentenced her to four years in prison, ordered her to pay a $1,500 fine and a 10-year driver’s license suspension on the aggravated vehicular assault charges. Cooper also sentenced her to 180 days in jail and a five-year driver’s license suspension on the DUI charge. If Scott ever gets her license back, she will also be required to put a Breathalyzer device on her vehicle.
• Samantha Starr, 26, of 92 Washington Ave., Huntington, West Virginia, did not receive summons to appear in court. However, a warrant was issued for her to appear. She faces one count of identity fraud, a felony of the fifth-degree, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.
• Katie Whitley, 33, of 3822 DeWhitt Road, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, pleaded not guilty to one count of tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony. She also failed a urine test for multiple illegal substances, including Oxycodone, cocaine, opiates and marijuana. Cooper set bond at $17,500 cash or surety. Pretrial was set for Sept. 20.
