It was a typical South Point vs. St. Joseph soccer game.
In a series that dates back to 1993, the Pointers managed to get a 3-2 win over St. Joseph on Thursday.
“It was a pretty physical game. There were a lot of fouls. This has been a really good rivalry,” said Pointers’ coach Zane Joy.
Jacob McClure gave the Pointers a 1-0 lead with an assist by Bryan Waller at the 15:00 mark of the first half.
The Flyers tied the game on an unassisted goal by Zach Roach three minutes later.
South Point took a 2-1 lead at the half as Marquise Yancey scored an unassisted goal with 36:00 on the clock.
The score remained the same until Pointers extended the lead to 3-1 at the 77th-minute mark on an unassisted goal by Karmie McGuffin.
St. Joseph answered with an unassisted goal by Jackson Rowe two minutes later but the Flyers were unable to score again.
Brody Blackwell had 12 saves for the Pointers while Flyers goalkeeper Jerod Johnson had seven saves.
South Point visits Fairland at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
