Falling down affects 1 in 3 older Ohioans every year

An event planned for the Ironton Farmers Market will address the dangers of falls among seniors.

10 Million Steps to Prevent Falls will take place from 11 a.m.-2p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22.

Organizers say one in three older Ohioans will suffer a fall this year and the Steady U initiative is aimed at preventing that.

Taking place annually, the day will feature a one-mile course for participants to walk the 2,000 steps to make up a mile.

Vendors will be on hand for the event as well, with many addressing the needs of seniors.

Organizers will tally the number of steps taken.

In 2015, Lawrence County recorded 13 million steps taken, the largest amount in Ohio.
