Council to discuss OUS police presence, new dumpsters

Dumpsters and additional police protection will be on the Ironton City Council agenda tonight.
The council will be asked to decide to buy six new dumpsters for the city. The ordinance on that reads that the city dumpsters are unsafe for use because of age and condition. It also states that some businesses have chosen to go with private garbage companies because of that, and the city hopes to retain its current customers and get new ones by replacing the dumpsters.
The amount for the six dumpsters is not to exceed $5,000 and the funds for the purchase would come out of the city’s garbage equipment reserve, which is funded by garbage collection fund.
The council will also consider a request from Ohio University Southern to renew its contract with the city for additional police protection for their campus.
City Council will have two committee meetings prior to their regular meeting.
The city council’s finance committee will meet at 5 p.m. tonight, followed by a meeting of the public utility committee at 5:45 p.m. The regular session of the Ironton City Council will start at 6 p.m. All meetings are held on the third floor of the City Center.
