Porter Township Trustees hire lifeguards, swim instructors for Wheelersburg community pool
The Porter Township Trustees took action on a number of community related issues on Monday evening, moving to hire new lifeguards and swim instructors, and to schedule swim lessons for the community pool.
Trustees approved the hire of four new certified lifeguards for the 2017 community pool season, as well as approving the employment of certified swim instructors. This is in addition to four lifeguards already approved for hire in their early May meeting.
In related action, they also approved the Wheelersburg High School use of the pool for swim team clinics from 9–11 a.m. June 28–30.
This swim clinic does overlap with the first set of swim lessons scheduled for the season, also approved at the meeting, but the trustees said that pool management assured them the two events wouldn’t conflict.
Swim lessons will be offered from 10-11 a.m. June 26-30 and July 10-14, at a cost of $20 per child for each five-day session.
In other action Monday night, the trustees moved to approve May financial statements, and approve a purchase order of $150 to Shawnee State University for attendance of a paramedic refresher course, to be paid from the EMS fund.
In fire department business, the trustees approved the payment of a purchase order of $1,800 to Findlay Fire for service of rescue tools. They also moved to accept inspection reports, to accept quotes on parts for repair of a hydraulic leak on their ladder truck, and approve a quote of $1,568 from Findlay Fire for labor on the project.
In old business, the trustees approved a client service agreement with Medicount for EMS billing, certified for a period of four years. The trustees emphasized that only non-residents are subject to billing for the services provided by EMS. Porter Township residents will not receive a bill for any EMS service.
They also accepted a fire inspection for a property at 353 Clark St., and approved sending a copy of the resolution to the property owner. Weed notices were approved and sent to property owners of parcels located at 309 Wilson St. and 808 Center St., and to approve a quote from Keller and Sons for weed removal at these locations.
They also approved sending a junk car notice to a property at 7409 Ohio River Rd. and sending a resolution and notice of abatement of dangerous property to the property owner of 626 Center St.
In other action related to parks, the trustees approved a quote of $9,600 from Professional Fencing for fencing around the new pickleball courts.
In another sign that summer is upon us, the trustees also approved the employment of Dusty Spradlin and Scott Jenkins as riders for the 2017 mosquito spraying. Riders follow along with vendors to ensure they spray the areas they have been contracted by the township to spray.
Trustees closed the public portion of the meeting by adjourning to executive session to discuss compensation of township personnel.
