SOUTH POINT — It was teamwork within teamwork.
Jonathan Henline and Logan Wade combined on a two-hit shutout as the South Point Pointers used a team effort to beat the Fairland Dragons 5-0 in the Division III sectional tournament on Wednesday.
Henline worked four innings for the win. He struck out four, walked one and gave up two hits.
Wade finished for the save and struck out six and walked two.
Dylan Raines pitched well in defeat. He scattered nine hits, struck out three, walked one and only three of the runs were earned.
South Point (18-7) will now host Chesapeake at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the sectional finals.
The Panthers beat Wellston 7-3 in their sectional game on Wednesday.
South Point took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
With one out, Brody Blackwell singled, Wade double and Henline singled in a run.
Travis Dillon reached on an error as a run scored.
The lead went to 4-0 in the second inning.
Drew Smith singled, stole second, went to third on an error and scored on Tanner Hall’s base hit.
Hall stole second and third and came home on a sacrifice fly by Blackwell.
The final run scored in the third when Henline was safe on a three-base error and then came home on a sacrifice fly by Dillon.
The Pointers were led by Smith who went 2-3, Hall was 2-4 with an RBI, Henline 2-3 with an RBI and Dillon was 1-2 with two RBI.
Eli Bowen and Raines had Fairland’s base hits.
