ASHLAND — As part of Ashland in Motion’s First Friday event in downtown Ashland on Friday, the Highlands Museum and Discovery Center will offer discounted rates as well as showing off various artifacts related to its newest exhibit, “Time Out: A History of Sports.”

From 4-8 p.m. on Friday, admission into the museum will be $3, instead of the normal $6.50 admission price for adults and $5 for children over 2 and seniors. Members of the museum are always free.

“We’re excited to be a part of the First Friday,” Emily Roush, museum education and marketing director, said. “We’re hoping it all goes well.”

Roush said she’d be outside the museum on Friday talking to people about the museum and the sports artifacts that will be on display from the exhibit inside.

“We have items from a lot of local schools in the area,” she said. “And we’re using this as a kickoff to the larger sports exhibit that we’ll have in the spring next year from the Smithsonian Institution and Kentucky Humanities Council.”

The large sports exhibit the museum will host next year from the Smithsonian Institution and Kentucky Humanities Council is a traveling exhibit that the Highlands Museum was able to host through a grant.

Roush said that the items they have for the current exhibit would also be added to it.
