HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall Football is gearing up for its Green and White Scrimmage Saturday at 3 p.m., an event that is set to take place in Joan C. Edwards Stadium.
Currently, however, the National Weather Service is forecasting a 100 percent chance of rain Saturday, which would move the scrimmage into the Chris Cline Indoor Athletic Complex.
If the decision is made to move the action indoors, an announcement will be published on HerdZone.com and all Marshall Athletics social media accounts by 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
“Of course we would love to play in Edwards Stadium … that is our top choice,” said Marshall head coach Doc Holliday.
“When the weather is good, our fans can tailgate, let loose and really have some fun. Kroger is such a valued partner for our Green and White weekend and we want to make sure its needs are met as well.”
“The silver lining is that we have one of the best indoor complexes in the country and I think it will be tremendous to see 2,000 fans packed in there to watch us get after it.”
Parking lots will open at 10 a.m. and gates/doors will open at 1:30 p.m., regardless of venue. Parking will be $20 on Saturday for the West Stadium Lot.
The turning on of the Marshall Memorial Fountain ceremony will go on, rain or shine, and will begin at noon on the plaza of the Marshall Student Center.
Todd Ellwood, a former Thundering Herd wide receiver and the son of former head coach Frank Ellwood, will be the keynote speaker. Former Marshall All-American, and current Philadelphia Eagle, Vinny Curry will also be on hand to offer a few remarks.
The event setup will provide cover for spectators who are in attendance.
“Having our Green and White Scrimmage fall in line with the University’s Alumni Weekend is always fun for our Thundering Herd family,” Marshall Director of Athletics Mike Hamrick said.
“The weather is one of the few things we can’t control, but in the event we need to move indoors, I rest assured that our fans will enjoy the facility and really like what they see.”
If the event is moved indoors, concessions will not be made available inside and outside food and drink is also not permitted inside the complex.
Marshall Football student-athletes and coaching staff will conduct a photo and autograph session 30 minutes after the scrimmage has concluded.
Admission for the scrimmage is free.
This year’s scrimmage will also be carried live on the Marshall University Athletics Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/MarshallAthletics).
“We plan to run a lot of plays and will be doing a lot of teaching on Saturday,” said Holliday. “Our fans will really enjoy the day, no matter the venue. They will get a good look at where we are and where we are heading.”
