PEDRO — The Rock Hill Redwomen were very efficient.
The Redwomen did all their damage in one inning as they edged the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers 4-3 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Wednesday.
“I’m proud of the way our girls fought tonight. We know it’s always a tough game when we play Ironton,” said Rock Hill coach Brooke Long.
“Grace Stevens had another big day for us at the plate, Jill pitched a great game and (Kelsey) Olderham made some great plays in centerfield tonight.”
Rock Hill got all its runs and three of its four hits in the fifth inning.
Madison Harper singled to start the inning. Taylor Hall singled and Porter reached on an error.
Hairston walked to force in a run, Gracie Stevens singled in a run, a throwing error on the play score a run and Anna Darby hit a sacrifice fly.
Ironton had taken a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Kenzie Cremeens singled and Aley Carmon doubled her home. Ruth Paholsky then singled in Carmon.
Ironton got a run in the seventh when Mary Beth Burton hit an inside-the-park home run.
Paholsky was 2-3 with a double and an RBI as Ironton had eight hits.
Hairston got the win as she struck out seven and did not walk a batter. Peighton Rowe took the loss as she struck out six, walked one and allowed just one earned run.
Ironton is at Spring Valley Thursday and hosts Portsmouth on Friday. Rock Hill hosts Gallipolis Thursday and plays Saturday in the Valley of Thunder.
