Jetson Bates

March 13, 1963 — March 31, 2017

Jetson Aaron Bates, 54, born March 13, 1963, the son of Curt and Nancy Moore Bates, died March 31, 2017, at his home in Middletown. He was preceded in death by his parents; both maternal and paternal grandparents; and a sister, Lisa (David) Traylor.
He is survived by the joy and love of his life, the most precious and important person to ever enter his life, his daughter, Megan Justine Osborne Bates, of Telford, Pennylvania. He also leaves behind two beloved brothers, Ralph Bates, of Cary, North Carolina, and Brian (Celeste) Bates, of Columbus; along with dear nieces and nephews. He has devoted aunts, uncles, and cousins by whom he will be greatly mourned and missed.
Jetson attended Rock Hill Schools and graduated from Ironton Christian Academy. He attended Ohio State University in Columbus and earned his degree in Engineering from Shawnee State University graduating in the top percentile of his class. He worked for AK Steel in Middletown where he had respected and valued co-workers.
An avid fisherman, he was a member of the Carp Anglers Group of Ohio. He had friends and fellow fishing buddies who shared special fishing spots as well as students of the sport who gladly listened and learned from his expertise.
There are so many who will grieve the loss of this good man with his gentle, caring spirit and unique sense of humor.
A Celebration of his life will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Scott Bryant officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday. Condolences may be made online at www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

J.C. Conley

May 29, 1940 — April 2, 2017

J.C. Conley, 76, of South Point, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. He was born May 29, 1940, in Prestonsburg, Kenucky, a son of the late Turner Conley and Alice Miller Horner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Barbara Ann Lucas Conley; an infant son, Roy Conley; a sister, Anna Lee Hager; a brother, Ellis Conley; and his stepfather, Clyde Horner.
He was a commercial roofer with Local 185, Charleston, West Virginia, for over 50 years and a member of Sheridan FWB Church for 35 years. J. C. is survived by two sons, Mike Conley (Michelle), of South Point, and Jimmy Conley (Beverly), of Marion, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Andrew Conley, J. J. Walden and Andrea Conley; four sisters, Jean Covert, of Wheelersburg, and Wanda Cremeans, Linda Williams and Shelby Horner, all of Franklin Furnace; and six brothers, John Conley of South Shore, Kentucky, David Horner, of Minford, Calvin Horner, of Ironton, Burl Horner, of Franklin Furnace, Randy Horner, of West Portsmouth, and Mike Horner, of Wheelersburg.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with pastor Randy Patrick officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Marjorie Malone

Jan. 22, 1931 — March 20, 2017

Marjorie Malone, 86, of Ironton, passed away Monday, March 20, 2017, at Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation Manor in Wurtland, Kentucky.
The Huntington, West Virginia native was born Jan. 22, 1931, a daughter of the late Homer and May Gebhardt Parsons. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph D. Malone, who passed away Jan. 9, 2010.
Marjorie attended Chesapeake High School and was the former owner/operator of May’s Donut Shop. She was also a member of the Russell Christian Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Mantle.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Ronald (Tonya) Mantle, of McMinnville, Oregon, and Valerie Mantle, of Ironton; three great-grandchildren, Kyle Mantle and Aaron Mantle, both of McMinnville, ORregon, and Angel Mantle, of Ironton; one great-great-grandchild, McKenzie Elizabeth Mantle; three sisters, Shirley (Jay) Davis, of Russell, Kentucky, Mable (Don) Vinson, of Greenup, Kentucky, and Lurlene Grimes, of Windemere, Florida; and a brother, James H. Parsons, of Lexington, Kentucky.

Marcia Hall

Marcia Hall, 52, of Lavalette, West Virginia, died Sunday, April 2, 2017, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia.
There will be private family services. Schneider-Hall Funeral Home, Chesapeake, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Pearl DePriest, Jr.

Sept. 19, 1924 — April 5, 2017

Pearl DePriest, Jr., 92, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky.
The Lawrence County native was born Sept. 19, 1924, a son of the late Pearl Sr. and Tella Aldridge DePriest. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Wilda Meeks DePriest.
Pearl was a graduate of Pedro High School and a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He was a former employee for the Wayne National Forest, retiring in 1990 after 15 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and watching things grow. He was also a No. 1 Cincinnati Reds fan and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Genevieve Thompson and Barbara Malone; two brothers, Gerald DePriest and Orlyn DePriest; and a granddaughter, Missy Ison.
He is survived by two sons,  Ronald (Janet) DePriest and Donald (Mary Ann) DePriest, all of Ironton; two daughters, Phyllis Marshall, of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, and Sandy (Bob) Mosby, of Palmetto, Florida; 11 grandchildren, Sam Balsinger, and Kristy (Wayne) Brown, all of Louisville, Kentucky, Teresa Hillman and Katie (Ronnie) Hall , all of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, Tellie Hillman, of San Antonio, Texas, Junie DePriest, Mike DePriest and Ann Marie Truchoweski, all of Ironton, Molly DePriest, of Columbus, Debra (Doug) Pratt, of Chesapeake, and Sarah (Rich) Fraley, of Portsmouth; a sister, Martha (Glen) Carmon, of Ironton; and many, many great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 9 a.m. Saturday in Woodland Cemetery Veterans Section with pastor Eric Barnes and the Rev. Glen Carmon officiating.
There will be no public visitation and Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Donnie Hearald Jackson, 49, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Sunday, April 2, 2017, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia.

William Harold Bailes, 92, of Proctorille, died Saturday, April 1, 2017, at the Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown, Ohio.
