OAK HILL — The margin of victory wasn’t even the most impressive number of the night.
The Oak Hill Oaks crushed the Northwest Mohawks 74-28 — a 46-point margin of victory — on Friday night, but the biggest number was coach Norm Persin racking up career coaching victory No. 700.
The win gives Persin a 700-198 overall career record, a number that left him in a state of disbelief.
“I always dreamed of winning a state championship, but I never, ever dreamed of the Hall of Fame or National Coach of the Year,” said Persin.
“700 wins is way over my beliefs. I had a lot of good players and tie was on my side. Thank God I had good health and a desire to stay in the game for this long.”
Persin has coached at Oak Hill and Chesapeake during his career. His 2009 Oak Hill team beat Kalida 48-43 in double overtime to win the Division IV state championship.
Persin was inducted into the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches’ Hall of Fame last April 23.
Persin has also been named the National Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Association.
