PEDRO — The Rock Hill Board of Education hired veteran assistant coach Mark Lutz as the program’s new head football coach on Thursday.
“I just hope to continue to build on the fundamentals and get the players to do small things right that will hopefully lead to victories and a successful program,” said Lutz.
Lutz spent 21 years as an assistant coach at Ironton before taking a job as the Rock Hill Middle School coach the past two seasons.
He guided the team to the middle school championship two years ago.
Lutz was an All-Ohio first team selection in 1988 as he led Ironton to the Division III state finals. He was named the Associated Press Division III Offensive Player of the Year.
He attended Marshall University but was given a medical red-shirt during his sophomore year and did not play the remainder of his career.
Lutz replaces Todd Knipp who had been the head coach of the Redmen the past 12 years.
Rock Hill was 6-4 each of the past two seasons.
