PEDRO — It was the “Afternoon Special,” and it proved to be pretty special for the South Point Lady Pointers.
Playing in an afternoon assembly game in front of the student body at Rock Hill High School, the Lady Pointers posted a 60-41 Ohio Valley Conference win on Thursday.
“We shot the ball better today. We played with more intensity on defense,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Dave Adams.
“I think both teams were a little nervous playing in front of the crowd but it was a good experience for both teams.”
Abbey Hannah and Kate Mundy scored 10 points each to lead a balanced South Point offense. Emilee Whitt, Madison Kearns and Ashley Perkey scored nine points each for the Lady Pointers (6-6, 3-3).
Rock Hill (6-6, 2-4) was led by Samantha Stamper with 10 points while Anna Darby scored nine and Maddie Scott added eight.
Emilee Carey, Hannah and Kearns all hit 3-pointers in the first quarter as South Point took a 12-8 lead.
Hannah scored five points while Booklyn Badgett and Kearns scored four each as the Lady Pointers opened up a 34-18 halftime lead.
Darby and Scott combined for nine of Rock Hill’s 10 points in the quarter.
South Point extended the lead to 54-32 after three quarters as Whitt caught fire and drained three 3-pointers. Stamper scored six points for the Redwomen.
In league games next Thursday, South Point is at Coal Grove and Rock Hill visits Fairland.
