Opt-out option available

Electric and natural gas aggregations that Ironton residents voted to pass in 2015 will soon be in effect.

The city of Ironton used Aspen Energy to find third-party suppliers for both electricity and natural gas at the lowest rates, and last February, Ironton City Council passed two resolutions to adopt plans to move forward with the aggregations.

In November of last year, Ironton City Council passed two resolutions with third-party suppliers for both. Residents who already use a third-party supplier are not affected, however, residents who do not are automatically entered into the aggregation programs unless they opt-out.

Residents who have budget plans will still be able to budget under the city’s aggregation programs.

Dynegy is serving as the city’s third-party retail electricity provider and Constellation as the city’s third-party retail natural gas provider through the aggregation programs.

In turn from using third-party suppliers, the city gets money based on how many people are in the programs for city beautification, parks and recreation.

Residents may opt-out of the programs at any time. If residents want to opt-out of the aggregation programs before being automatically entered in, they can fill out a forms they may have received in the mail or call Dynegy to opt-out of the electricity aggregation at 1-888-682-2170 or Constellation to opt-out of the natural gas aggregation at 1-844-745-5610.

The deadline to opt-out for Dynegy Electricity is Thursday, Jan. 12 and the deadline to opt-out of Constellation Natural Gas is Tuesday, Jan. 17.
