This year’s Cram the Cruiser campaign wrapped up on Thursday after seeing a record amount of donations.

According to Chris Smith, of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the drive collected enough donations to fill three and a half full-size pickup trucks.

“In the past, the most we’ve had is one full size truck,” he said. “We tripled donations, which is great.”
Smith credits the involvement of local businesses in this year’s drive to fill the trucks, which stationed at Glockner’s South Point location.

“Yesterday, we all met and took a group picture, then delivered to the locations,” Smith said. “We’re already committed to next year and are going to aim higher.”

The donated goods will go to four local food pantries — The Chesapeake Community Mission Outreach, Michael’s Grace Place, The South Point Nazrene Church and Ironton City Mission.

This year’s drive was sponsored by Robin Fowler State Farm Insurance in South Point, The Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, Armstrong Cable, People for the Point, the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, and WKEE/WTCR.
