Lady Panthers use defense to get easy win over Trojans

CHESAPEAKE — This one was about defense and the defense was about Natalee Hall.
Hall had 13 steals to spark the defense as the Chesapeake Lady Panthers routed the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 47-19 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.
Besides the steals, Hall led the Lady Panthers with 16 points to go with 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
“We were able to pressure them into a lot of mistakes and overall we played well defensively,” said Chesapeake coach Chris Ball.
Karli Davis pulled down 7 rebounds while Jozy Jones had 6. Brooke Webb had 8 steals with Corrine Ferguson having 2 assists.
Webb scored all 5 of her points in the first quarter as Chesapeake took a 13-5 lead.
Hall scored 7 points in the second quarter as Chesapeake opened up a 25-8 halftime lead.
The Lady Panthers blanked the Lady Trojans in the third quarter 14-0 and it was 39-8.
The Lady Panthers lost 43-31 on Wednesday at Wayne, W.Va., Hall scored 12 for the Lady Panthers.
Chesapeake will host the Lady Peake Holiday Tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday. Rock Hill and South Point play at 5:30 p.m. followed by Greenup County and Chesapeake.
The consolation game is 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday and the championship game at 7:15.
