Ironton Elks provide gifts, party to RH students
Multi-Categorical students at Rock Hill Elementary School were treated to Christmas gifts, Santa Claus and a pizza party on Friday, provided by Ironton Elks Lodge 177.
“Every year, the Ironton Elks provide a Christmas party, bring Santa and give gifts to the Multi-Categorical students at Rock Hill Elementary,” J.T. Holt, exalted ruler of the lodge, said. “The Elks have done this for about 30 years. It’s overwhelming and extremely rewarding to see the joy it brings these kids each year.”
The students gathered in the school’s cafetorium before Ironton Elk Fred Jones began calling the names of each student to come and receive their gifts. As students came up to receive their gift, Santa Claus awaited them for a photo.
In the weeks prior to the party, the teachers go around to each of the students for them to make a list of items that they want.
“The Elks raise funds to buy the gifts,” Holt said. “It’s great to be able to take part in something like this.”
About 70 students were at the party and received Christmas gifts, and Coal Grove Giovanni’s provided pizza and soft drinks.
“One teacher told me that one of the students asked when the Elks were coming in the fall at the beginning of the school year,” Jack Adams, Elks member and former secretary of the lodge, said. “Just looking at the smiles on these kids’ faces makes it all worthwhile.”
