Grand opening event set for next year

ROME TOWNSHIP — A new store in the Proctorville area is filling a need for the community.
Proctorville Hardware and Feed, located at 8055 County Road 107, opened on Oct. 24 in the former Moore’s Hardware building.

Carrie Cheek, who co-owns the store with her husband, Robert Calloway, said the former store closed in April 2015, and the area has been lacking a hardware option.

“There used to be three stores here, but they all closed,” she said.

The majority of the inventory at the shop was purchased from the previous store, she said, and she and her husband have been adding to that.

The store employs three additional workers, and Cheek said it is her first time running a business, while Calloway runs Rolo Excavating and Contracting in Proctorville.

“The biggest thing we sell is plumbing and electrical supplies,” Cheek said. “And nails in bulk and Quikrete.”

Cheek said the store, which is open from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday and from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays, offers key copying and specializes in caulking, paint and some automotive items.

She said one of the big draws of the shop that is different from their predecessor is that they will be selling animal feed.

“We just got approved to be a licensed Purina dealer, and will be ready in the next week or two,” she said, pointing out the sign that is ready to go in the window when the feed arrives.

She said business has been steady since the opening and they are planning a grand opening event, set for sometime after New Year’s Day.

“Our goal is, if you’re building a house from scratch, you’re not going to be able to get everything here,” Cheek said.

“But, if you’re getting into a project and you think, ‘Man, I wish had more screws,’ you’re going to find a big selection here.”
