Bike event worthwhile

For a child, riding a bike around down the road or around the block brings a sense of freedom, much like a teen feels when taking their first drive after getting their license. In either case, the world is seemingly just ahead of them.
Unfortunately, many children don’t have that opportunity to hop on a bike of their own. But, if the organizers of the Lawrence County Christmas Bike Giveaway have any say, that freedom will just be a peddle or two away.
Now in its sixth year, the event has seen 1,500 bikes provided to children throughout the county in need.
Unfortunately, donations are down this year with a little under 80 bikes available at this time. Like so many other individuals, businesses and organizations throughout the county, this event simply wants to make a difference and brighten the spirits of children.
The organizers’ goal is 200 bikes to give away at the event scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 17, that would cover the elementary schools and head starts.
We encourage anyone who is able to help this, or any of the worthwhile efforts this holiday season to get involved.
This can be with your time or financial contributions.
We can all play in vital role in making this holiday season the best one for many of those in need.
