Pine came from courthouse lawn
It’s not Thanksgiving yet, but, with the holiday season closing in, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
Workers were setting up the city Christmas tree at Rotary Park in downtown Ironton on Thursday.
Jim Bishop, a city electrician was running a chainsaw, trimming the base of the more than 30-foot tree so that it would fit into the hole in the plaza that serves as its stand.
Workers said this year’s tree came from the courthouse lawn and was cut down by Aaron Edens of the city flood control department.
A crew of six were on hand to carry out the job of setting the tree up.
Meanwhile, at Paul Porter Park in Coal Grove, workers from Judge O.C. Collins’ community work program were busy decorating the park for the holidays.
Lights and stand-up decorations ringed the park, while ornaments such as bells were hung from the playground.
