Roy Smith
Jan. 18 1943 — Nov. 5, 2016
Roy Joseph Smith, 73, of South Point, passed on, Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington. He was born Jan. 18, 1943, in Lawrence County, the son of the late Clinton R. Smith and Sarah Ramsey Smith.
Roy was an Air Force veteran of four years, a 25-year veteran of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and former sheriff of Lawrence County for eight years. He was also a member of the Ironton Lion’s Club, the Ohio State Trooper’s Assn. and the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Assn. Roy was a former little league baseball coach and a 50-year resident of South Point.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Christina Poliacik Smith; three children, Lori (C.J.) Tidball, Gary Smith and Joanna (Scott) Rice; six grandchildren, Brandon Cochran, Brianne Cochran, Samantha Smith, Stephanie Smith, Gary Smith, Jr. and Sydney Rice; and seven great-grandchildren, Coleton, Karmen, Isabella, Ryelly, James, Lincoln and Kaleb; and many other loved ones.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the old South Point High School with pastor David Fairburn officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the school.

Ronald Roush
April 1, 1912 — Nov. 1, 2016
Ronald C. Roush, 104, of Michigan, formerly of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, in Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Michigan. The Pedro native was born April 1, 1912, a son of the late Martin A. and Jennie “Jane” Ginnicks Roush. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Selma Chapman Roush, whom he married in 1940. They were devoted to each other and established their home in Ironton. She passed away Sept. 18, 1984.
Mr. Roush was a graduate of Pedro High School and attended Rio Grande University. He was a foreman at Henrite Products Corporation for 26 years and later the property manager for Hudson Jefferys, attorney. He was a member and officer of United Commercial Travelers and a member of First Baptist Church in Ironton, where he was a deacon. He lived in the Lawrence County area his entire life until he was 92 years old, at which time he moved to Jackson, Michigan, to be with his daughter and son-in-law.
He had never done woodcarving until he moved to Michigan. At the age of 92, he joined South Central Wood Carvers Association in Spring Arbor and continued creating intricate wood sculptures until after the age of 102. Amazingly, he never cut himself! From the age of 92 through 96, Ronald practiced yoga with a group of much younger adults and with his daughter, modifying the positions. He was an inspiration for many.
Ronald was, without exception, kind and considerate to everyone, always. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, and hiking. He also liked to travel and to share meals with family and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Audrey Roush Johnson, Lucille Roush and Irma Roush Bode.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbara (Craig) Brown; a grandson, Carl (Laura) Brown; and great-granddaughters, Cadence Brown, 9, and Adelyn Brown, 7.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Eric Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, 304 S. Mary Harvey
Feb. 23, 1935 — Nov. 7, 2016
Mary Lou Simonin Harvey, 81, of Ironton, died on Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Ironton on Feb. 23, 1935, the daughter of the late George and Esther Thorne Simonin. She was a member of Elm Street Church of Nazarene, a home maker.
She was the widow of Carl Harvey. Also preceding her are two sisters, Carol Meadows and Louise Heaberlin. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy (Ron) Moore, of Clarksville, Tennessee, Kim (Karl) Vanbrocklin, of Huston, Texas, Barbra Moore (Mike Eicher), of Ironton, and Karla (Steve) Grant, of Ironton, two sons and daughter-in-law, Dwayne (Barbra) Harvey, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and George Keith Harvey, of Ironton, 12 grandchildren; 20 eight great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Janet (Brenton) Massie, of Ironton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at noon on Friday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home with pastor Ron Moore officiating. Visitation will be on from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and 9 a.m. on Friday until time of funeral. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in sec 7.
Helen McClure
April 22, 1931 — Nov. 5, 2016
Helen McClure, 85, of South Point, passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. Helen was born April 22, 1931, in South Point, a daughter of the late Carl and Shirley Moore McClure.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Floyd, Julian and Lee McClure; her sister, Mary Ruth McClure; and a nephew, Carl Clinton McClure.
Helen was a lifelong resident of South Point. She was a 1949 graduate of South Point High School. She was a charter member of the Burlington Baptist Church. Helen loved to sing and had a beautiful singing voice. She loved singing in church services and at weddings. Helen was also very helpful to others and would volunteer her time to take friends and family to doctors and dentist’s appointments, or wherever they needed to go. Helen retired from Air Systems in Huntington in the clerical and payroll departments. She also worked in the payroll department at the former Allied Chemical Plant in South Point.
Survivors include her sister, Edith Freeman, of South Point; brother, Marlin McClure, of South Point; nieces, JoAnn Sinclair, of Columbus, Karen Trampler, of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Saundra Clark, of Charlotte, North Carolina; and a sister-in- law, Jean McClure, of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel by pastor Lou Ashworth. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Ironton. Wanda Parker
Jan. 25, 1932 — Nov. 7, 2016
Wanda J. Parker, 84, of Wheelersburg, passed away Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, at Concord Health and Rehabilitation Center in Wheelersburg. The Lawrence County native was born Jan. 25, 1932, the daughter of the late Charles and Nellie Rowe Besco.
Wanda was a graduate of Pedro School Systems and worked in housekeeping at Hempstead Manor in Portsmouth, where she retired after 10 years. She had a love and passion for craft-making and also enjoyed traveling, which took her to far places such as Guam, Saipan, and The Philippines. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Rose McFann; and two great-grandsons, Jeremy Cremeans and Keidan Bean.
She is survived by six sons, Floyd “Sonny” (Cheri) McFann, of Wheelersburg, Randy McFann, of Pedro, Mike McFann, of Ironton, James (Doris) McFann, of South Webster, Eddie McFann, of Ironton, and Dave (Rhonda) McFann, of Coolville; two daughters, Sheila McFann-Large, of Wheelersburg, and Sherri Allemann, of Leesburg; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchilldren; amd pet dog, Baby Doll.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Bryan White officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrence Furnace Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home. Katherine Stuntebeck

Katherine Stuntebeck, 74, of Ironton, died on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
She was born on Thursday, Dec. 18, 1941, in Ironton, to the late Mrs. Alice Murray Stuntebeck and the late Mr. Vincent Clermont (Doc) Stuntebeck.
Katherine graduated from St. Lawrence Grade School and St. Joseph High School and attended Ohio University in Athens. Her long career in the publishing industry led to positions in Chicago and Atlanta, ending with her 2013 retirement from Conde Nast in Atlanta.
Katherine will be remembered for her strong faith and her kind and generous nature. She was a voracious reader, a great wit, and loved and admired by her family and many friends. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by one sister, Susan S. Zwick (Jude), of Aurora, Illinois; two brothers, Vincent Murray Stuntebeck (Mary), of Ironton, and Thomas Stuntebeck (Elise), of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; and many nieces, nephews and loving friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Nov. 12 at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Ironton. Burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery, Coal Grove. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to Ironton Catholic Schools Building Fund or Ironton Catholic Schools. P.O. Box 499 Ironton, OH 45638.
