Dinner marks 2-year milestone

CHESAPEAKE — The Sybene-Chesapeake Senior Center is celebrating two years of operation at its present location.

A dinner, attended by more than 60 people, took place Monday at the center, a modular unit beside the Chesapeake Community Center, to mark the occasion.

The center was first located in Burlington, but was shut down when a levy did not pass. They moved to their current building in October 2014.

The center offers activities for area seniors, such as the monthly Our Day dinners, held at First Baptist Church in Proctorville, speakers, bingo, Bible study and craft events.

Director Darlene Green said there are several items on the calendar for the coming month, with a craft class set for 9:30 a.m. Nov. 4 and a special Thanksgiving “Our Day” set for 11 a.m. Nov. 18.

On Nov. 16, the center will take its members to Collins Career Center at 9 a.m. for a special senior day, in which they can receive services from the salon, auto students and others at the school.
