Boo’s Donut Shop opens in Ironton
A new business in Ironton offers a place to grab a light breakfast or satisfy any sweet tooth.
Offering five different icings and 16 different toppings for cake donuts to choose from, Boo’s Donut Shop had its grand opening this past Saturday, serving more than 70 dozen donuts its first day.
Larry “Boo” Wilson, owner of Boo’s, said that his family got the idea to open a donut shop while on vacation in June of this year.
“We were on vacation in Florida at a donut shop there, and that’s where my wife and I got the idea from,” he said. “She said ‘you should open up a donut shop when we get home,’ and I started putting it together around July 1.”
Wilson said it took him the better part of July through the grand opening this past Saturday to get the building ready and turned into a donut shop.
“I pretty much had to learn from the beginning,” Wilson said, admitting he didn’t know how to make donuts before starting the shop. “There were about six dozen that probably went into the trash until I got it right.”
Wilson said he got the nickname “Boo” because his nephew started calling him that when he was young.
Boo’s makes cake donuts in which customers can customize with icings such as chocolate, vanilla, caramel, glaze or maple, and add toppings such as rainbow sprinkles, chocolate sprinkles, coconut, Reese’s Pieces, Fruity Pebbles, Oreos and even bacon.
When customers walk in, they pick up an order sheet to fill out, and donuts are made fresh to order.
Boo’s Donut Shop is located at 1426 S. Third Street in Ironton and is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-11 a.m. and noon-3:30 p.m., Saturdays from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and closed on Sundays.
