Event to focus on problem of substance abuse, highlight recovery efforts

Spectrum Outreach Services will host a recovery event to raise awareness of substance use disorders in observance of National Recovery Month.

The Take Back the Streets street fair will take place from noon-6 p.m. at the Ironton Farmers Market.

To address the problem of substance use disorders prevalent in the Lawrence County community, Spectrum will sponsor the event, raising awareness about prevention, treatment and recovery support services in the area.

The community event will be free and offer inflatables, electronics giveaways, an appearance by Batman, Batgirl and the Batmobile, face painting, music, food and more.

Spectrum has partnered with local law enforcement, fire departments, Lawrence County EMS, the Lawrence County Health Department and the Lawrence County Alcohol and Drug Addiction Board.

Several guest speakers will discuss their story of substance use and recovery and detail the journey they took to get where they are today.

Spectrum said all citizens of Lawrence County are encouraged to join the recovery event to highlight the significance of helping people in need of prevention, treatment and recovery support services, while also celebrating the accomplishments of individuals in recovery.

The farmers market will also be open from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. with the Ironton High School Varsity Singers set to perform at 10 a.m.
